I Didn't Set Out to Start a Skincare Company.
I really just wanted better skincare.
My 40s brought a lot of things I loved: more confidence, more perspective and considerably fewer f*cks to give.
They also brought skin I didn't entirely recognize. Oh hey, Marika, you're apparently not 25 anymore...
Suddenly, what had always worked... didn't.
My skin was changing, and the endless selection of products wasn't giving me better answers.
The more ingredient labels I read, the less impressed I became.
Potency sacrificed for shelf life.
"Natural" claims that didn't hold up.
Actives sprinkled into formulas for label appeal.
Ingredients I definitely didn't want on my skin at all.
So I stopped looking for the skincare I wanted. I started formulating it.
54 Versions Later...
My first face cream took 54 iterations.
Not because version 17 or 32 couldn't have been sold. They probably could have.
But I didn't want sellable.
I wanted exceptional.
I wanted a cream that felt beautiful on the skin and did something meaningful once it got there.
I wanted fresh, potent botanicals, thoughtful actives and ingredients chosen because they belonged together — not because they looked impressive on the front of a box.
Eventually, I got it. She was the one.
My skin began looking like itself again — hydrated, resilient and luminous.
So naturally, people started noticing...and asking...and I started handing bottles to anyone who would let me.
Friends. Family. Friends of friends.
They came back wanting more!
And High Tea Skincare was born.
Equal Parts Science + Instinct
I came to skincare with a background in sports medicine, nutrition and holistic wellness, formal training and a Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation, plus a lifelong love of cooking and mixology.
Oddly enough, it all makes sense together.
I love understanding what individual ingredients can do.
But I'm even more fascinated by what happens when the right ingredients are brought together, thoughtfully.
That's where High Tea lives: at the intersection of botanical wisdom, modern skin science and the art of formulation.
Green tea became our signature and remains at the heart of every formula.
Around it, I work with beautiful botanicals and thoughtfully selected actives to replenish changing skin, support its microbiome and build resilience.
No ingredient earns its place because it's fashionable.
We formulate for performance on real skin, not label appeal.
Made Differently. On Purpose.
High Tea isn't mass-produced skincare dressed up in botanical language.
Our formulas are made fresh and with intention.
I seek out beautiful raw materials, including organic, wildcrafted, virgin and minimally processed ingredients when they make sense for the formula.
And transparency here means actual transparency. You'll know what's in your skincare.
Even when a raw material arrives as a blend of several components, I disclose those components too. (nobody does that)
Because I think you deserve to know what you're putting on your face.
And because I care what I'm putting in the bottle.
This Isn't About Turning Back the Clock.
I'm not interested in making women afraid of getting older.
I am interested in helping skin navigate what comes with it.
Perimenopause / menopause, stress, time, sun, fun and lifestyle choices can change what our skin needs.
We can replenish what's depleted.
We can nurture the microbiome.
We can plump and soften the appearance of fine lines, support resilience and bring some serious luminosity back to the party.
Getting older isn't the problem.
Settling for skincare that hasn't evolved with you is.
We believe beauty is not a depreciating asset.
And no, you're not done being hot. ;)
